WELCOME TO WORLD WATER RELIEF – HAITI
Bookmark this page

Excerpt from a letter written by a doctor at GHESKIO, where WWR installed four purification units during the January trip to Haiti:

“The GHESKIO refugee camp downtown in fact has increased in size and counts 6,241 refugees on less than 9,000 square meters of land as of two days ago. There are unfortunately no plans for relocation… The main reason why we may have averted a major waterborne epidemic is the constant availability of potable water.”

OUR HAITI DIARY

WASH to Learn, Haiti Update #1 – September 1, 2010
Retrieving the water systems from Barahona, DR, was a bit of a mission.  But, it went smoothly…

Keep the momentum going!

Due to the almost non-existent access to internet and intermittent phone service, it has been hard to stay as current with the blogging as I would like, but however late, here is our most recent update… more

Days 10 through 13 – Success from adversity

Day 7 and Epilogue – Closing the first chapter
We awoke at 2:30 a.m. after one hour of sleep in Barahona. I had been in touch with Josue Cabellos with US AID the evening before, and he informed us that we could cross the border with a UN convoy that was organizing at 5 a.m. and would probably leave at 6 a.m… more

Day 6 – Aftershock
We awoke at 7 a.m. to frequent text messages alerting us to the new 6.1 earthquake that had occurred in Haiti just hours before. We immediately tried to assess how this might affect our plans. Nobody that we talked to in Barahona felt the quake, and the news out of Port au Prince seemed underwhelming, but the quake definitely put us on edge for the day before it even got started… more

Days 5 – Choosing success
You know I’m not really sure that I’ve ever really explained what we are doing here. When I started this thing I thought I was writing for just a few people, all of them well-versed in our objectives, but I think that there may be some out there who don’t know what we are trying to accomplish… more

Days 3 and 4 – Delivering aid
As we left the GHESKIO clinic Jean Marc gave me a hug like we were brothers, and although I’d known the guy for about an hour, I honestly would’ve done anything he asked of me.  I promised him we’d be back no later than Thursday with more water filtration systems… more

Day 3 – Making progress
I’ve heard from the group back home that maybe more than just my mom has read this thing, so I was immediately a little self conscious and felt compelled to give the following syntax and grammar disclaimer… more

Day 2 – In Haiti
We stretched out the kinks from the night’s sleep in JFK and boarded our plane to Santo Domingo.  Ben and I occupied the very rear of the jet, spread out and grabbed some sleep.  Our motto to this point has been… more

Kevin – Here’s a good rule that my Dad, who was an English professor, once shared with me:
The importance of grammatical errors declines exponentially with the richness and inspiration of content. So, using this rule, I would judge your grammar as perfect!

Ben – I am thinking you have earned at least 6 of those croissants.

    Kevin,

Reading your accounts makes me envious. You, and Ben, really are doing the Lord’s work! Wish I was there to watch your back but you’re far better off with my prayers. I think you may have found what the writer of Ecclesiastes was looking for…your calling.
